On the day I was at the TX State Capitol, the
Space Shuttle Endeavour did a flyover being transported on the back of a NASA 747 over the State Capitol on its final flight to its new home at the
California Science Center, in
Exposition Park, Los Angeles.

Back to my visit of the State Capitol of Texas: Construction began in 1882 and was completed in 1888. Made of Sunset Red Texas Granite donated free of charge by the owners of Granite Mountain in 1885. The builders accepted as payment 3 million acres of land of the Texas Panhandle which became the famed XIT Ranch. In 1993 a 667,000 square-foot, 4 story Capitol Extension was completed UNDERGOUND!
